According to an internal email leak, William R.
Aguilar) has announced Sony's ambitious plans for a fundamental change in the structure of the PlayStation network.
The era of the old PlayStation Network (PSN) branding seems to be coming to an end, and Sony is formulating a long-term strategy that traces its roots back to 2023.
A subscription to rule everything After revamping its services in 2022 with the introduction of Essential, Extra and Premium levels, Sony has now gone a step further and finalized a plan in its management levels that integrates all digital services into a "single subscription".
This versatile service is supposed to include the following:
PlayStation games
Movies (via Sony Pictures Core)
TV series
music
Probably anime (based on Crunchyroll's massive archive)
It is expected that this integrated ecosystem will be unveiled and available at the same time as the launch of the PS6 console.
Universal access, but with technical limitations, reports indicate that Sony is considering releasing a dedicated application for this service for smartphones and PCs.
However, the gaming experience on these platforms has its own challenges.
According to available information, PlayStation games will not run natively on PC or mobile.
Users will probably have to use Cloud Streaming technology or Remote Play to experience these titles outside of the console.
Two models for access to games For the games in the catalog of this new subscription, two main scenarios are considered:
1.
Requirement of PS6 console: In this model, the user must have Sony's next generation console to access the games.
2.
Streaming for everyone: In this model, it is possible to stream games for all users; But access will only be possible through the cloud, and there will be no ability to download versions for personal computers.
It seems that with this move, Sony intends to be a fierce competitor for the comprehensive services of the digital world and to expand its ecosystem beyond a game console.
